WATCH: Christian Horner shares heartfelt message to Adrian Newey at Goodwood Festival of Speed after
Red Bull began the season with a frenzy going on at Milton Keynes. The team’s principal and CEO, Christian Horner was accused of behaving inappropriately with a colleague, leading to rifts within the team. This eventually led to Adrian Newey announcing the break-up between the Austrian giant and him. While reflecting on his time with Newey, Horner shared an emotional message for his departing colleague at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Christian Horner has been at the helm of Red Bull since the team’s inception in 2005. He has played a vital role in hiring personnel and was the driving factor in poaching Adrian Newey from McLaren. This alliance conquered more than a dozen championships and was deemed unbeatable. However, with rifts forming within the team, the design genius announced his departure and is on the last leg of his tenure.
Horner reminisced over Newey and his partnership and claimed that he would miss the 65-year-old.
We had so much fun over the years and Adrian is a great friend and collegue, and we've been through an awful lot together. For sure we are going to miss him, but we are very proud of what we’ve done together the amount of donuts he've done over the years and all the mischief he's been up to. But we are very proud of what we did in the time we had together.Christian Horner said in an interview at the Goodwood FOS
While at Goodwood FOS, where Red Bull had large-scale participation, Newey and the team principal were seen together. Subsequently, the pair were interviewed and the 50-year-old admitted they had a fair share of fun together over the years. He then claimed to be proud of the work they had done together and the success they had achieved.
Adrian Newey claimed it had been a ‘fantastic journey’ with Christian Horner
Horner was not the only one who shared a heartfelt message for his colleague. On the other hand, after he shared his message for Newey, the latter gave his views on the time he had spent at Milton Keynes.
The 64-year-old reckoned his 19-year-long journey with the team to be a fantastic one.
It’s been a fantastic journey working with Christian from those early years and how we together developed the team and all the graceful people, wonderful staff that we have back at the factory and in the race team. It’s been a real privilege, something I will always look back on with great fondness.Adrian Newey said in an interview at the Goodwood FOS
Newey recalled how the team went from being an underdog to a championship contender. He then appreciated the personnel in Milton Keynes and their desire to excel and admitted his time at Red Bull to be a privilege.
Despite his love for Red Bull, the Brit’s time at Milton Keynes is coming to an end soon. Moreover, the Englishman is rumored to move to Aston Martin, but he is understood to decide his F1 future by the winter break. Thus, Newey would soar in F1 headlines for a bit longer as uncertainty looms around.
