On 6th Day of Navratri, MAA DURGA is worshipped as MAA KATYAYANI, destroyer of evils.

MAA Katyayani in this form rides on the magnificent lion, has 3 eyes, 4 hands, refulgent of thousands of Suns, with lotus, sword and mudras.

Demon Mahishashur was creating havoc. The Gods approached Lord Vishnu. At behest of Lord Vishnu, Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva joined him, the Trinity emitted flames to form Katyayani.

Katyayani was born as a daughter to Sage Katyayan

She was formed to end the demons who committed sins. She is blessed with 18 hands to fight and with Sudarshan Chakra from Lord Vishnu, wisdom from Lord Brahma and trishul from Lord Shiva, Shankha from Lord Varuna, Dart from Agni, Bow from Vayu, Quiver from Surya, Thunderbolt from Indra, Mace from Kubera, a sword and a shield from Kala, a battle axe from Vishwakarma.

She proceeded towards Vindhya mountains. There was a fierce battle between Maa Katyayani and Mahisahsura. She defeated him , slaying his head with a sword. The slaying of Mahishasura is celebrated as Durga Puja.

Gratitude to Maa Katyayani , worshipping her, she blesses strength to fight all diseases, sorrows and fears.

In this form, MAA DURGA blesses marriage of girls with desired husbands.

She blesses health and wealth to her devotees.
