One of the most anticipated games of the season took place in week 13 on Sunday. The San Francisco 49ers traveled to Philadelphia to take on the Philadelphia Eagles. These two teams played against each other in the NFC Championship game last year where the Eagles defeated the shorthanded Niners en route to a Super Bowl appearance.
Since the NFC Championship game, there has been a lot of trash talk between these two teams. The Niners thought that they would have won that game if not for Brock Purdy’s injury. They got their chance for revenge on Sunday and accepted it in some style. The San Francisco-based team destroyed the Eagles, 42-19 with Purdy dominating at the quarterback position. ESPN analyst, Stephen A. Smith claimed that the Niners’ win over the Eagles “delegitimized” Philly’s championship win last year.
Smith said on the latest edition of the ESPN show, First Take:
I'm going to say it because it needs to be said: The kind of beatdown that took place yesterday, one could argue it delegitimized the Philadelphia Eagles as NFC champions. Four quarterbacks for one team go down in the same year. Have you seen that in NFL history? They had no quarterback behind center from the second quarter on in an NFC Championship Game.
This take left panelist Dan Orlovsky in visible disbelief.
Smith further continued:
They've been talking about how we should've been the ones that were there [in Super Bowl LVII], not y'all. [They] showed up, talked trash, they come onto the field, walk right through midfield, right past the Eagles just shoving them to the side, letting them know that we are here kick your ass. And then promptly went out and kicked ass.
The Niners have been on a roll since their bye week. They have now won their last four games and have scored more than 30 points in three of those for wins. Their offense is clicking at the right time and they are now just one win behind the Eagles who have the best record in the league.
Deebo Samuel talks about the 49ers’ dominant win over the Eagles in the NFC Championship rematch
The San Francisco 49ers dismantled the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday in their NFC Championship game rematch from last year. The Eagles won that game convincingly as the Niners were marred by injuries. This time, the Niners were healthy and ready as they dropped 42 points on the Eagles. Their star WR Deebo Samuel had a fantastic game and he talked about the win afterwards.
Samuel said:
I ain't going to lie, I was in that zone all week long. Of course they beat us in the NFC championship, and then at the end of the day, talking trash, it's just part of the game. We're talking trash, having fun, and we came out here and got a win.
Samuel finished with 4 receptions for 116 yards and two touchdowns. He also had three carries for 22 yards and a touchdown. The star receiver is one of the best players in the game and will hope to lead the Niners all the way to the Super Bowl this season.
