Nethker Fire north of McCall now 79 percent contained; some crews to be released

Some firefighters assigned to the Nethker Fire in the Payette National Forest will be reassigned or sent home Friday, as crews continue to get a better handle on the fire's perimeter.

The fire, which is burning more than 30 miles north of McCall near Burgdorf, is 79 percent contained as of late Thursday.

Crews were able to make good progress Thursday because of favorable weather conditions and slower fire growth.

The Nethker Fire has burned 2,351 acres since it was sparked by lighting back on August 4.

Firefighters have now moved into the mop-up stage on the southern end of the fire. Crews are working to secure the firelines and put out hot spots in that area.

Warren Wagon Road is open to the public, however, French Creek/Burgdorf Road remains closed. With increased weekend traffic, firefighters are asking the public to drive with caution through the area, as firefighters and their vehicles will be working in the area.
