Mountain Home schools canceled due to Snapchat threat from Florida, police say
MOUNTAIN HOME, Idaho (CBS2) — Superintendent James Gilbert announced that Mountain Home schools are being canceled or put in lockdown after a "threat of violence" made over social media.
Mountain Home Junior High and high school will be closed Friday, and all other Mountain Home schools will be in lockdown.
"It is up to you to determine if your child will be attending school," Gilbert said.
"I know this is a stressful situation for all of us," he added. "I encourage you to talk with your children about the situation and to reach out to me with any questions you might have."
Mountain Home Police Department is investigating the threats. Police say they started with a Snapchat post that had violent threats directed to "JHS."
Investigators say this post circulated nationally and caused investigations at Jerome High School, Jesuit High School in California, and Jupiter High School in Florida. The post started in Florida, and an arrest has been made, police say.
Officials say there is no threat to the Mountain Home School District.
