Many WWE superstars are known for their in-ring gestures and catchphrases. One such superstar is John Cena, who is known particularly because of his “You Can’t See Me” catchphrase.

John Cena has been a major household name in the WWE before moving on to Hollywood. He is a 16-time WWE World Champion, a feat only replicated by Ric Flair. Ever since joining Hollywood, Cena has been making appearances in WWE occasionally. He once appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to promote his Peacemaker TV Show, where he explained the origin of his famous catchphrase through a dare.

When asked about how he got his catchphrase, Cena replied:

“I became a superhero long before donning the Peacemaker costume. I developed a special maneuver in the WWE called the You Can’t See Me. In which, I put my hand in front of my face and say ‘You can’t see me.’ And the reason I did this is that while we were making the album to which my theme music is on, a younger brother, Sean, was always our litmus test. He liked the same music and he would never go to the studio with us.”

Cena then explained that his brother Sean was playing his theme music and was doing a similar gesture by holding his hand in front of his face and slightly bobbing his head. Cena said that he made fun of that gesture saying that it looked ridiculous, but then Sean dared him to do it on live television. Hence, The Cenation Leader actually did it. However, to make it more noticeable, he waved his hand in front of his face. He also added the “you can’t see me” line to make people think he was invisible”.

Ever since this line and gesture have become John Cena’s signature pose. It even became a part of the meme culture, where people would jokingly say that John Cena is actually invisible whenever they saw him in a picture or a video.

What’s next for John Cena following his loss at WrestleMania?

At this year’s WrestleMania, John Cena faced off against Austin Theory for the WWE United States Championship. Unfortunately for The Cenation Leader, he succumbed to a loss at the hands of Theory.

It’s unlikely that John Cena would step into the ring anytime soon due to his busy schedule. As recently reported, he currently has 2 movies in production and almost 8 movies in pre or post-production. Given this tight schedule, it’s highly unlikely that he would have time for wrestling anytime in the near future.
