Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman had an emotional night on Monday during the game against the Philadelphia Phillies. The baseballer was absent from the lineup for quite a long time due to his son being admitted to the hospital.

Dodgers fans gave a standing ovation for approximately a whole minute to cheer and support their star player on his return. Freeman said, he’s able to return to the lineup as his son is now out of danger, although it will take him a while to get better fully.

His son Maximus was diagnosed with a rare neurological condition known as the Guillian-Barre syndrome. As per the Mayo Clinic, it is an especially rare condition among children that causes the immune system to attack the body’s nerves causing weakness, numbness, and even paralysis. Thankfully, Freeman revealed that his son can get fully well, although he may have to re-learn how to do things again.

On Monday, the Dodgers fans were seen wearing “Get well soon, Max!” T-shirts to support the child and the player’s family in their times of struggle. Freeman choked up receiving their warm-hearted wishes as he waved to the crowd.

He said he’s thankful for all the love he’s received from both the Dodgers fans and the respect he got from the Philadelphia Phillies fans too. Their rivals too understood the importance of the moment as they prayed for Max’s well-being. Freeman said it was “really hard” for him to hit the ball in that situation.

Freddie Freeman gives updates about his son Max’s medical condition

It all started when Freddie Freeman received a phone call from his wife Chelsea saying Maximus had been in severe pain that prevented him from walking or standing. The 34-year-old took an immediate leave from the LA Dodgers and on August 1 in an Instagram update, they noted their son’s rare medical condition.

Earlier this week, Freeman mentioned how they’ve returned home with Max after eight days at the Pediatric ICU. He expressed how “hopeless” he and Chelsea felt after learning of his son’s condition and wished only they could switch to take his pain. 

Seeing one of your kids on a ventilator fighting, it was hard. That’s the heartbreaking thing. No one deserves to go through something like this.

“It's a good thing I'm here because it means things are trending better…. No one should have to go through this, especially a 3-year-old. I don’t know how many times Chelsea and I said we wish we could switch.”

Freeman also mentioned how Phillies star Bryce Harper reached out to him and often texted him. “Bryce probably texts at least four times during the nine days, really checking in”. Max will now start with physical therapy exercises at home. It’ll be a long road to get to his 100%, but being the strong child he is, and with all the support from family, friends, and fans, everyone’s heart is with him.
