SALMON-CHALLIS NATIONAL FOREST, Idaho (CBS2) — Fire crews are continuing to make progress on the containment of the Hayden fire.
The fire has burned an estimated 24,489 and is 77% contained.
Crews are starting on suppression repair work to the north and east of the fire to prevent erosion, protect water quality and habitat for fish species, and stop noxious weeds.
Fire activity remains low thanks to rainfall and cooler temperatures. There have been reports of lightning strikes in the area from the thunderstorms so fire crews are patrolling the area to put out any new fires.
